Abstract

Taking into account the processes associated with building up and reproducing the potential of mining and processing enterprises, which operate under conditions of fierce competition, the article considers the urgency of the problems associated with creating an effective methodology for assessing their potential. The essence of the definition of “potential” is disclosed, and a time period is defined that relates to the beginning of research of this category from an economic point of view. On the basis of a comparison of individual aspects of the assessment of the potential of the enterprise, unresolved questions were identified regarding the theoretical and methodological foundations adequate to the conditions of the mining and processing enterprise. It is noted that the formation of the system of estimated indicators of the enterprise's potential consists in the accumulation of data on the quantitative and qualitative state of the parameters of its internal environment. It is determined that the main prerequisite for effective strategic management of mining and processing enterprises in modern conditions is an appropriate assessment of their potential. It was found that, in accordance with the results of a survey of managers of 20 Ukrainian business entities, a limited number of coefficients characterizing their potential are used at domestic enterprises, which makes it impossible to conduct an in-depth comprehensive analysis. On the basis of the research and critical analysis of various approaches to assessing the potential of the enterprise, an augmented scorecard was considered, the selection of which was carried out taking into account the completeness of available information, the relationship between indicators, industry characteristics, research objectives and other circumstances. The characteristic of marketing, production, personnel and financial potentials of the enterprise is presented. Taking into account the peculiarities of the mining and processing enterprises, a methodology has been developed for assessing their survival potential.
