Abstract

Objective. The objective of the research is to identify and determine different types of categorial disparities of finite forms of verb in the process of translation and grammatical transformations application to create an adequate translation. Methods. Methodological basis of the present research presupposes the following kinds of analysis: comparative and translation analysis, grammatical notions and their categorial disparities in original and translated texts comparison, analysis of ways of rendering and the transformations applied in the process of finite forms of verbs translation into Ukrainian. Scientific results. The main types of categorial disparities of finite forms of verb in the process of translation and types of grammatical transformations are defined; the translation of short stories by O. Henry and grammatical transformations applied while their translating are analyzed. Great attention is paid to methods and ways of verb rendering, and defining the disparities in the process of English-Ukrainian translation. Scientific originality. All theoretical backgrounds in studying the main ways of finite forms of verb translation are systematized, basic categorial disparities of verb and justified grammatical transformations application (on the basis of O. Henry’s works Ukrainian translation done by M. Riabova, Y. Ivanov, M. Dmytrenko and V. Musiienko analysis) are defined. Practical value. The practical value of the research predisposes that its results can be used for further translation problem-solving, development of the theory and practical aspects of translation, translation styles study, and comparative stylistics.
