Abstract

The present article is concerned with synonymic rows study of the German language adapted fromP. Süskind’s novel “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”. The main emphasis is placed on stylistic synonymswhich belong to different functional strata of vocabulary, namely neutral words, colloquial words, literarywords, slang, vulgarisms, jargonisms, etc. In order to check whether the synonymic rows and theirstylistic shades are retained, the translation of the novel into Ukrainian made by I. Friedrich is analyzed.Attention was focused on synonymic rows with a keywords “face”, “to die” and “nice”. The usage ofstylistic synonyms by the author adds expressivity to the text, diversifies the represented images andstresses the acuity of feelings.
