Abstract

The category of evaluation is considered within the framework of axiology, which is the philosophical doctrine of values. The purpose of this study is to analyze the definition of delimitation between the categories "evaluation" and "values" in modern linguistics, which is due to the basic nature of these categories. The object of research is interpretation of categories of "evaluation" and "values" in theoretical explorations of philosophy and linguistics. Subject of scientific research are linguistic phenomena as expressiveness, stylistic fixability, emotionality, imagery. scientific exploration of domestic and foreign scientists-linguists and philosophers serves as the research background. The scientific novelty of this study is a comprehensive analysis of the definition of "evaluation" and "values". The practical value of the study is embodied in the definition of a fundamental difference between categories of expressiveness, emotionality and assessment. The prospect of studying evaluated words and phrases is determined by theoretical and practical needs, because the interest of scientists to identify and describe means of expression of the evaluation category has increased. Language category of estimation is a reflection of the logical category of evaluation, which expresses the relation of the subject to any subject or phenomenon. The evaluation category has a point of intersection with such phenomena as comparisons, since in the estimated act there is always a correlation with a certain standard, and the modularity in which, as in the assessment, there are such elements as objectivity, subjectivity, attitude. Distinction features of the two categories of evaluation are the lack of axiological output in comparison and limiting the expression of modality in the level of sentence, while the score can be expressed by elements of all linguistic levels. Open remains and the question of whether to attribute to the category of evaluation only the assessment judgments, which explicit the comparison of an object with standard features of this class of objects, or also statements that do not contain an explicit estimation, but which have some kind of event descriptive information.
