Abstract

The conducted research has revealed significant differences in the views of scientists on the essence of the category "quality", which offer their own views and points of view. According to the author's view, under this category it is suggested to consider an attempt to conform to an ideal that is constantly disappearing as it approaches it. Quality is the way of perfection, excellence, the desire to meet the expectations of today's consumers and other stakeholders and society, the effort to meet the future, even hidden, latent needs by providing products with the right characteristics that will be of value to the consumer and can be recognized as a source of sustainable competitive advantage to promote significant success of the enterprise and quality of life of society. In addition, the analysis of scientific sources has revealed a number of appropriate approaches that combine the views of the authors on the nature and understanding of the category under study. Such approaches are evolutionary, functional, cost, consumer, regulatory and integrated. Each of these approaches points to the relevant aspect, leaving the other in focus. That is why a comprehensive approach to the essence of the category of "quality" is proposed, which allows to integrate all existing views and proposes to consider the category of "quality" as a complex multidimensional category that has transformed over the evolution of mankind from the category of difference to the modern economic category.
