Abstract

The phenomenon of global cities and the evolution of theoretical concepts, explaining their existence and development were overviewed; existing approaches towards understanding the essence of the ‘global city’ concept were reviewed, and the authors’ one was proposed. The list of criterias which determine cities as global ones was developed; different authors' concepts concerning global cities role in the world economy were summarized; the most substantial approaches to the classification of global cities were identified and considered
