Abstract
The genesis of the theory of innovations has been investigated, starting with the works of ancient Greek figures, continuing with the postulates of the classical school of political economy and ending with the ideology of the modern theory of innovative development. Chronology and characteristics of technological structures in the context of the regularities of the cyclical development of economic systems are considered. The modern directions of development of the theory of innovations are determined.
