Abstract
The analysis of socio-economic indicators of tourism development in the EU countries for 2016-2019 made it possible to identify the main features, namely: 1) a steady increase in the volume of GDP created directly in tourism in the EU countries, which was caused mainly by a steady increase in the volume of services exports related to tourism and travel, especially in Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy and Germany, as well as an increase in tourist flows to the EU countries; 2) the presence of a significant disproportion in the percentage of GDP created directly in tourism from the total GDP of the state in the EU countries and the selection of leading countries (Croatia - the percentage of tourism's contribution to GDP is 11.4, Greece - 8.2%, Portugal - 7.1%, Austria - 6.8% and Spain - 5.9%) and catching-up countries (Ireland - 1.5%, Belgium - 1.6%); 3) a moderate increase in the number of employed people in tourism across the EU countries with a difference in the ranking of countries by the absolute and relative deviation of the growth of this indicator (in absolute deviation, the largest increase in the number of employed people in tourism across the EU countries was observed in the UK (293.55 thousand people), Italy (213.32 thousand people), Germany (204.26 thousand people), Spain (160.50 thousand people) and Portugal (110.61 thousand people). A negative trend was shown by the Czech Republic (- 7.38 thousand people), Latvia (-5.37 thousand people) and Luxembourg (-0.07 thousand people), according to the relative deviation, the largest increase in the number of employed populations in tourism in the EU countries was observed in Portugal - 36.52 %, Greece - 28.16%, Malta - 23.53%, Great Britain - 21.89%, the Slovak Republic - 20.76 and Cyprus - 24.07%); 4) the unevenness of the percentage of the employed population in tourism from the total number of employed in the EU countries and the allocation of leading countries (Croatia - 12.3%, Malta - 10.8%, Portugal - 8.5%, Greece - 8% and Italy - 7.4%) and catching-up countries (Romania - 1.7%, Lithuania - 1.8%, Belgium - 2.0%, Finland - 2.1% and Poland - 2.2%); 5) a significant increase in the volume of capital investments in the tourism industry in the EU countries.
