Abstract

Purpose. The purpose of this article is to explore the strategic directions of increasing the level of economic security of the regions. Methods. The methods of theoretical generalization, analysis and synthesis, logical generalization, analogies, comparative comparison were used to achieve a definite goal. Results. The article is devoted to theoretical research of the management processes of formation and strengthening of economic security of the national economy through a regional component. The existing concepts of the economic security’s strengthening of the national economy are investigated. The analysis’ results of the existing Strategies for Regional Economic Development by 2020 indicate that any strategy does not determine the state of economic security of the region neither as a basis for economic development nor as a consequence of the economic development of the region, that once again confirms the lack of consistency regarding the issue of ensuring economic security at the regional and state levels. Security is considered from the following positions: public safety, environmental safety, radiation, ecological, energetic security, traffic safety, food safety (Kirovograd, Volyn, Poltava regions), personal and informational security (Luhansk region). The results of the strategic goals’ analysis which are identified by the regions of Ukraine in the relevant Strategies for Economic Development until 2020 indicate that almost all regions (22 regions or 92%) determined the aim to provide a high level and quality of life of the population of the region (including development of human capital) as one of the priority.
