Abstract

Purpose. The purpose of this article is to conduct a retrospective analysis of the integrated economic security index of the Ukrainian regions (oblasts). Methods. To achieve this goal, the following methods have been used: method of theoretical generalization, analysis and synthesis, logical generalization, analog approach, comparative analysis and taxonomic analysis methods. The taxonomic analysis method has been used to make a general assessment of a complex object or process, namely of the economic security index of the regions The method of retrospective analysis has been used to study the dynamics and to determine the tendencies of evolution of the integrated economic security index of the Ukrainian regions. Results. By means of the taxonomic method the integrated economic security index of the regions for 2008–2017 has been calculated. According to the results of the calculations, it has been determined that Dnipropetrovsk region was the leader in the level of economic security during almost the entire period of the study: 2008 — 0.67; 2009 — 0.58; 2010 — 0.7; 2011 — 0.72; 2012 and 2013 — 0.67; 2014 — 0.59, 2015 — 0.65, 2016 — 0.53 and 2017 — 0.65 points. The results differed in 2009 and 2016, when the highest level of economic security was recorded in Donetsk region (0.62) and Kyiv region (0.56), respectively. During the whole period of the study Chernivtsi region was showing the lowest value of the economic security index, except for 2015–2017, when Luhansk region was showing the lowest value of 0.04 . The difference between the maximum and minimum values of the integrated economic security index fluctuates on average at the level of 0.55 points: between 0.49 (2014) and 0.61 (2017). This is a significant deviation, and according to the results of the calculations, the trend towards increasing disproportions in the context of ensuring the economic security of the regions is apparent. The proposed methodology is of applicable nature, that is substantiated by its practical implementation according to the actual data of socio-economic development of the Ukrainian regions during 2008–2017.
