Abstract
In the paper, considering the potential of the enterprise as the main condition for the development of the enterprise, the very concept of "enterprise development" at different angles of understanding was substantiated. This justification made it possible to distinguish the model of "preserving potential through development" on the basis of a combination of philosophical, biological and logical scientific approaches. Generalizing the concept of "enterprise development", its historical context was explored. In the process of research it was determined that the main condition for the development of the enterprise is its potential. This made it possible to determine its main characteristics and to determine the leading role of staff in this process.
