The extractive industry is a strategic part of Ukraine's industry, and particularly its sub-sector –the mining industry and the development of quarries. The current state of the mining industry is characterized by a certain revival, but not in all its branches. The purpose of the article is to study the results of the extractive industry and to determine the main factors of the changes that will ensure the development of this industry. The analysis showed that for today the enterprises of the extractive industry are characterized by insufficient efficiency of activity (slowing down of production growth indices, fluctuations in profitability and profit, a significant share of unprofitable enterprises), and their technical and production potential does not correspond to the world trends, which is related to the incomplete use of opportunities of the development of this industry. For mining enterprises, changes in management are gaining weight due to the significant dynamism of their business environment, which is conditioned by both national and international trends. The changes in the business environment of the extractive industry and the development of quarries are generated by the factors: space, time, a consumer, protection, a product, prices that: trigger external changes; reduce (shorten) the lag of changes; initiate changes in the market infrastructure and the volume of related services; update the level of the state support; in some cases they prove the need for changes in technique and technology for the extraction, processing and enrichment of raw materials; define changes in approaches to the cost control and pricing methods. The signals that should stimulate the company to change should be: the growing difficulty in confronting the entropy effects of the environment; the presence of crisis phenomena at the enterprise; the deterioration of market conditions; the initiative of management of the enterprise or any stakeholders (their groups) regarding changes; the information of the contact groups of the enterprise on the requirements for products, prices, cost of resources. The following can be attributed to the factors of constraining changes: the lack of effective management and professional managers capable of implementing the entire cycle of change; an ineffective organizational structure, the presence of conflicts in the organization; the resistance to changes; the undeveloped corporate culture of the enterprise.
